What is SailGP?
SailGP is an annual international sailing championship founded in 2018 by Russell Coutts and Larry Ellison with the aim of revolutionising the sport. The competition brings together national teams from countries including Spain, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden, competing across a calendar of thirteen international events.
All teams race identical F50 foiling catamarans, state-of-the-art boats capable of exceeding 100 km/h and reaching speeds of up to four times the wind speed. By competing in identical boats, the championship places the emphasis on strategy, coordination and the skill of each crew, resulting in exceptionally close and spectacular races.
The 2026 SailGP season will visit a number of international cities, including Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Dubai and Geneva, before arriving in Valencia, which will host the tenth event of the series and the only Spanish venue of the championship.
SailGP Spain arrives in Valencia for the first time
