The church of San Nicolás has become very popular in recent years. This isn’t surprising. It has more than 1,900 square metres of frescoes in its vaults, which is the main reason why it is beginning to be known colloquially as the “Sistine Chapel of Valencia.” It is an immersive experience for those who enter this small medieval parish and one of the most famous in the city for its architecture and history, located in the heart of Valencia.
If you are planning to visit Valencia, don’t miss the Sistine Chapel of Valencia. We will tell you everything you need to know about the church of San Nicolás, as well as timetables and ticket prices. Let's get started!
San Nicolás, known as the Sistine Chapel of Valencia, is one of the oldest parishes in Valencia, with more than 700 years of history. Originally a Gothic temple, it was renovated in the 17th century, when its vaults were completely rebuilt and the frescoes were decorated with impressive Baroque ornamentation. This magnificent church, which leaves all its visitors speechless, is a true historical and artistic treasure.
The parish has winter and summer opening hours, although these may change due to liturgical celebrations or other events. Any changes will be announced in advance in their agenda. Regardless of the month you visit, on Mondays you can only enter the church to worship. In San Nicolás you can take a free tour or a guided tour with your own audio guide, depending on your preference.
