Contests and the Cosplay Competition

Besides Saturday’s Asian Cover Dance and Sunday’s Idol Festival, the highlight for cosplayers is the cosplay contest, held on Saturday at 5pm on the main stage. It has a runway format, with 50 places, and a performance format, with 15 places, and you must be over 16 to take part. Younger participants can join the Cosplay Junior contest on Sunday morning.

Prizes go up to €250 for the best performance, together with a pack of products from GreenStuffWorld, the contest’s sponsor, and there are further awards for best craftsmanship, best armour or prop and best wig or characterisation. Beyond the Stage, Association Activities and Workshops

One of the keys to Japan Weekend is that not everything happens on stage. Associations and groups fill the venue with activities, and this is what appears in the official programme.

  • Mirror Mirror. A photocall to wear EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) fashion for the first time, with sign-up at the stand while places last.
  • Tabletop role-playing. Sessions of the Alchemist’s Tower adventure with set design, for ages 12 and over, with on-site sign-up 15 minutes beforehand.
  • Tournaments. Super Smash Bros in 1v1 format on Saturday and 2v2 on Sunday, plus Mario Kart and Magic tournaments.
  • Art on wheels. An activity by the Daikoku Racing Team in which you can freely paint the bodywork of a Japanese car.
  • Club del Anime UPV. Origami, face painting and felt Sanrio keychain workshops.
  • Rómpel Hielo. A games zone with PCs and consoles, Magic tournaments and Love Express, a board-game space designed for meeting new people.
  • Workshops. Scrapbooking, press-on nails and, in the culture and sports section, your name in katakana, ddakji (the game from Squid Game) and an introduction to Ludosport.

You can check the full timetable on the activities and workshops page (in Spanish) and the culture and sports page (in Spanish), where the organisers will keep adding news.

  • Refunds are not accepted, although you can give your ticket to someone else.
