Get to know Valencia by bike

Valencia was designed to be explored on foot. Among the reasons for this are its flat surface, the large number of parks and green areas, the good weather that prevails for most of the year, and its historic centre full of cycle lanes and paths, streets with a speed limit for motor vehicles of 30 kilometres per hour.

The city is also part of the Bicycle Cities Network, an organisation of local and regional authorities that aims to promote the use of bicycles in both urban and rural areas. Getting around Valencia by bike is very easy, as the city has more than 200 kilometres of cycle lanes. In addition, there is the old bed of the River Turia, a green space that crosses the city from west to east and is more than 9 kilometres long, where bicycles can circulate freely.

Cycle routes through Valencia's history

The first route to get to know Valencia by bike is the Turia Garden. As we have already mentioned, this is a tour of the city, so we will pass through the most important neighbourhoods and historical points of the city. The journey can begin either in Cabecera Park or at the other end of the river, in the City of Arts and Sciences. The idea is to travel from one end of the city to the other, visiting specific neighbourhoods.

Along the route of the old River Turia, we can visit the Serranos Towers, one of the old gates to the Ciutat Vella, the Carmen neighbourhood and walk up to Plaza de la Virgen. Here we recommend a visit to the Royal Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados and the Church of Saint Nicholas, known as the Sistine Chapel of Valencia. Take the opportunity to visit the Cathedral and its famous bell tower, the Miguelete, the Archaeological Museum of La Almoina, the Palace of the Marquis of Dos Aguas and continue to the Town Hall Square.

Explore Valencia's promenade by bike

Another of Valencia's tourist attractions that is well worth exploring by bike is the promenade that runs along the Malvarrosa and Cabanyal beaches. We recommend that you start your walk at the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, to see this architectural complex from end to end, and continue until you reach the Marina of Valencia, an immense space dedicated to leisure in the port. From here you can continue along the promenade on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Visit the Albufera and Saler parks by bike

Continuing with the many cycle routes that Valencia has to offer, here is the longest and most charming. Starting from the City of Arts and Sciences, we have 48 kilometres of flat, round trip, to discover some of the most incredible landscapes of the Valencian Community.

On this route you will pass through Pinedo and its beaches, such as El Saler, Garrofera, and, of course, the Albufera Natural Park, a natural lake overlooking the sea, where the city's most impressive sunsets can be seen. In this area, one of the most notable points of interest is the Gola de Pujol viewpoint, where the Albufera pier is located. The Devesa de El Saler, with its dunes and unspoilt nature, is also located here. At the end of the day, we suggest you go to the El Palmar neighbourhood and try the authentic Valencian paella.
