Museo Sorolla en Valencia

Valencia is gearing up for one of its most anticipated cultural developments in recent years: the opening of the Sorolla Museum Valencia, an institution that will bring together more than 220 works by the Valencian painter who transformed Mediterranean light into universal art. The inauguration is scheduled for 2026 in the Palacio de las Comunicaciones, right on the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, transforming this historic building into a new cultural landmark for the city.

A tribute to Sorolla in his hometown

The project is the result of an agreement between the Generalitat and The Hispanic Society of America, an institution that safeguards one of the world’s most significant collections devoted to Hispanic art and culture. Thanks to this initiative, Valencia becomes the Society’s only European venue, strengthening its position as a cultural benchmark in the Mediterranean.

The opening of the museum marks the painter’s symbolic return to his origins, to the very scenes that inspired much of his work. The light of the sea, the coastal life and Valencian everyday scenes that Sorolla immortalised can now be admired in a space designed to bring his legacy closer to the public in an accessible and enriching way.

A journey through the essence of Sorolla

The Sorolla Museum Valencia will allow visitors to follow the painter’s artistic evolution through works in which the Mediterranean light takes centre stage. Guests will be able to appreciate both his most intimate compositions and the paintings where light and colour merge to convey the emotions and sensations of Valencian life.

The complete collection, with more than 220 works, will offer a comprehensive perspective of Sorolla’s artistry, highlighting how he transformed the everyday into universal art and how Valencia became his main source of inspiration.

Multisensory Fallas Room

One of the museum’s most innovative features will be the Multisensory Fallas Room, a fully immersive 360º cube that allows visitors to experience the excitement of the city’s most iconic festival. They will feel the intensity of the mascletà, the floral offering to the Virgen de los Desamparados, and the music and fireworks that define the 19 days of Fallas celebrations.

This room blends image, sound and movement to deliver a unique interactive experience, connecting visitors directly with Valencian culture. The fusion of Sorolla’s art with the sensory richness of a festival declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2016 makes the visit a complete cultural experience, ideal for all audiences.

Valencia, an essential cultural destination

The opening of the Sorolla Museum Valencia strengthens the city’s position as a leading cultural destination. Valencia offers a rich cultural calendar ranging from candlelit concerts to tours of free museums, remarkable monuments, historic neighbourhoods and even unexpected treasures such as its own Valencian “Sistine Chapel”, which continues to astonish visitors.
